শরীরে লবণের ঘাটতি এবং অধিক্য / Deficiency and excess of salt in the body

Deficiency and excess of salt in the body can have significant effects on health and overall well-being. Here's an overview of the consequences of both deficiencies and excesses of salt:

  • Deficiency of Salt (Hyponatremia):

Hyponatremia occurs when there is an abnormally low concentration of sodium in the blood. It can be caused by various factors, including excessive sweating, prolonged vomiting or diarrhea, certain medications, hormonal imbalances, or underlying medical conditions. Symptoms of hyponatremia may include:

    • Fatigue and weakness
    • Headaches
    • Nausea and vomiting
    • Confusion and irritability
    • Muscle cramps or spasms
    • Seizures
    • Coma (in severe cases)

  • Excess of Salt (Hypernatremia):

Hypernatremia occurs when there is an excessively high concentration of sodium in the blood. It can result from excessive salt intake, dehydration, certain medications, kidney problems, or hormonal imbalances. Symptoms of hypernatremia may include:

    • Thirst and dry mouth
    • Restlessness and irritability
    • Confusion and disorientation
    • Muscle weakness or twitching
    • Swelling in the extremities
    • Elevated blood pressure

Severe hypernatremia can be a medical emergency and requires prompt medical attention. Treatment involves addressing the underlying cause, rehydrating the body with fluids, and adjusting salt intake.
